Those are kind of the three things I have been doing this week. Mainly the first two, but that's okay.
The last two weeks has been pretty sweet. I think that God has been teaching me quite a bit. Last week, I worked at Clare High School's marching band camp with Dave Shepherd and a guy named Eric. It was a lot of fun, and it was cool to build relationships with the highschool kids. I think that it was a remider for me about what highschool was like. It helped me appreciate college quite a bit more. :)
For the first day of the camp, which was five hours a day, we taught the kids the music and also some marching basics. The next three days consisted of fine-tuning the music, learning the drill on the field, perfecting marching technique, and then learning how to play and march at the same time. (The last one proved the hardest of all............) On the last day, Friday evening, the band parents put together a potluck, and a whole bunch of relatives and family and friends came to watch the kids perform what they had learned so far. Even my family showed up to watch :D
On Tuesday, Amy and Dayna and Drew came to Mt. Pleasant to go tubing down the Chip River with us, and afterwards we got Slurpees. Amy's car that really wasn't hers was acting up, but luckily they made it back to the cabin in one piece, with Josh and I following to hang out with them that night and have dinner too. We ended up playing volleyball and Aggrivation, and other things. While they were playing aggrivation, I went down to the lake and just observed, noticing the sweet silence that hovered over the water, and the cool breeze in the branches of the pine trees and the full moon. It was a great time for me to spend with God, and just talk and then listen. Then Mom Hill came out and we talked a while about this and that, then talked a bit about the planning for the reception.
The next day, Amy and Mom came over to our apartment in Mount Pleasant and we talked and did more serious planning for the reception. Josh had to go to a volunteer thing, so it was just the girls planning, until Dad Hill showed up. We did some more planning and they did some car stuff, and then we went to the cottage (Josh had come back by then). At the cottage, we played some three on four volleyball (mom and dad hill, me VS amy, josh, Dayna and Drew).
Then, on Thursday, we ended up going to Clare, and just kind of hung out. I got to have a nice talk with my dad, and that was really nice. When mom got home from work, we ate some burgers, and the went over to the grandparents house and saw the baby kittens then came home and hungout for the rest of the night. The next day, Friday, Josh and I went to the Amish store to do a little discount shopping and then headed to the field for the performance.
I think God has taught me to be more patient, and to listen, especially to Josh. So often I find him as a threat, or someone that I have to prove right, when really, when I listen to him, and then think about what he says, I can process more easily what he says. Its been a good week of being able to talk for the two fo us two. We've had some really good conversations and God is definitely working through that. It is cool how once we give the relationship to God, He just kind of takes over and shows us what needs to be done.
The sermon at church last Sunday was cool too, because it was about the walls that we build that keep us away from God, or turn us around when we are going toward God. It really made me think about walls that were put up in my path, and walls that I constructed myself. Like my wall of fear, for instance. I am sure that I went out, bought the bricks, and the concrete, and all the tools to make the wall, then worked long and hard to put it up so that I couldn't knock it down. But I am slowly learning to let God just kncok it down, like the walls of Jericho, and it is cool to listen to what He tells me to do.
This is pretty long now. And I still have half an hour until lunch time is over....
