Devotions

To start out, I will tell you that I am not the biggest fan of debotionals... I usually end up doing a day or two, or maybe a week if I'm lucky, and then forget about it. I find a lot of them - especially the ones aimed toward women -- rely too much on emotions and how the Bible can relate to them when they are feeling a certain way. While I do enjoy finding verses that make me feel better when I am emotional, I like to read the Bible to know the Bible, and to understand the history and the meaning behind it, in context.
This particular devotional is called "Knowing God By Name, A Girlfriends in God Adventure". At first glance, I wanted nothing to do with it. But as I read the description, I realized that the authors, Sharon Jaynes, Gwen Smith, and Mary Southerland were on to something intriguing. The devotions are a very good mix of history and fact mixed with relevance and relation. Each day talks about a name given to God in the Bible. It tells what it means and where it comes from, and also how it relates to our lives today.
if you want a good mix of fact and relation, I would suggest this devotional. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about all the names of God in the Bible and what they meant.
